What to Do If Your FAB Card Is Lost or Stolen

Losing a debit or credit card is stressful, but First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) makes it straightforward to block your card instantly — often without calling anyone. Acting quickly prevents unauthorized transactions and protects your finances.

Method 1: Block via the FAB Mobile App (Fastest)

This is the quickest way to stop your card from being used:

  1. Open the FAB Mobile App and log in.
  2. Tap on "Cards" from the bottom navigation or home screen.
  3. Select the card you want to block.
  4. Tap "Freeze Card" or "Block Card" depending on your situation:
    • Freeze: Temporarily disables the card. You can unfreeze it later if found.
    • Block (Permanent): Permanently cancels the card. A replacement is automatically requested.
  5. Confirm your action via the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.

The card is blocked in real time — any attempted transaction after this point will be declined.

Method 2: Call FAB Phone Banking

If you don't have access to the app, call FAB's 24/7 helpline:

  1. Dial 600 52 5500 from within the UAE.
  2. For international calls, use the number listed on the FAB website.
  3. Choose the card blocking option from the IVR menu, or ask to speak to a customer service agent.
  4. Verify your identity using your phone banking PIN or personal details.
  5. Confirm the card to be blocked — the agent will action it immediately.

Method 3: Block via FAB Online Banking

  1. Log in at www.bankfab.com.
  2. Navigate to Cards in the main menu.
  3. Select the affected card and choose "Block Card" or "Report Lost/Stolen".
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm.

Difference Between Freezing and Permanently Blocking

Action Reversible? When to Use New Card Issued?
Freeze (Temporary Block) Yes Card misplaced, not yet confirmed lost No
Permanent Block No Card confirmed lost or stolen Yes (replacement issued)

After Blocking: What Happens Next?

  • Replacement card: FAB will mail a new card to your registered address, usually within a few business days.
  • Recurring payments: Update your new card details for any subscriptions or auto-debits that were linked to the old card.
  • Dispute unauthorized charges: If any unauthorized transactions appeared before you blocked the card, report them immediately through the app or phone banking to initiate a dispute.
  • New PIN: Your replacement card may arrive with a new PIN sent separately, or you can set one via the app.

Preventing Card Fraud in the Future

  • Enable transaction alerts in the FAB app so you're notified of every purchase instantly.
  • Use the app's card controls to restrict international transactions or online purchases when not needed.
  • Never share your card number, CVV, or PIN via phone, email, or SMS — FAB will never request these details.
  • Register for 3D Secure (Verified by Visa / Mastercard SecureCode) for online transactions.
